Nick Courtright’s Punchline
Andrew Neuendorf gives some good attention to Nick Courtright’s Punchline on HTML Giant.
Nick Courtright’s Punchline
Nick Courtright’s first book, Punchline, is out! Go to his website to buy a copy, do some Googling to read his poems, etc. Here’s a short favorite from the book:
THE GARDEN
It is all this material stuff. It is a deer
leaping over a white picket fence, its fawn in tow.
So bless
the tearful rush of falling,
and sing each of these seeds
into its bed—
I may have thirteen explanations
for every way
we’ve failed,
but I know no explanation for the thirteen explanations.
Nick Courtright Interview
My bearded friend and past teammate on The Bad Mother Faulkners, TX State’s MFA softball team, was interviewed by a snazzy new Austin website that is serializing excerpts from his forthcoming book, Punchline. He drops many truth bombs, but look closely for the one lie. An additional truth he failed to mention: in his final softball game, Nick, our pitcher, hit a home run.
